TITLE:

Analysis of RD&I Models in Open Biotechnological Frameworks

PAGES: 115
BIG AREA: Ciências Biológicas
AREA: Biologia Geral
SUMMARY:

Technological advances, the improvement of research techniques and changes in the behavior of the consumer market have added new variants to the technology market, generating new opportunities for cooperation, resource optimization and technology development. Opportunities for the adoption of more flexible business models have been presented as alternatives to accelerate the development of new technologies, especially regarding partnerships with biotech-based startups and ICTs (Information and communications technology) companies. In the literature, sharing economy concepts, as well as the open principles (innovation, science, market), have presented new business structures based on the decentralization of information, sharing of resources and formalization of partnerships. The research of real cooperation cases in technology-based industries is capable of highlighting determinants with the potential to create new disruptive technologies, as well as contributing to the reduction of RD&I costs in the field of hard science. In this sense, the study of new open RD&I models that meet these new market determinants applied to the ICT and biotechnology segment has become even more relevant. This research aims to investigate open models of biotech-based and ICT arrangements in regions of diversified economic growth, such as Ireland and Brazil. Through interviews with biotechnology development companies and the use of a structured questionnaire, we analyzed real cases of support for the development of new technologies, thus evidencing their business structure and relevance for strengthening the biotechnology market. As a conclusion, we aim to understand the role these institutions play in the innovation ecosystem in Brazil and Ireland, especially in terms of connecting actors and strengthening RD&I opportunities and relationships.
