LoRaWAN Multihop Networks: Classification, Modeling, and Practical Implementation

PÁGINAS: 111
RESUMO:

The IoT demands of a wireless protocol with a higher coverage area and low energy consumption motivate the development of the LPWAN networks. The LoRaWAN is one of the most recognized and used protocols in the sub-GHz non-licensed frequency band. The TheLoRaWAN networks use a star-of-stars topology with a central element responsible to receives the data from the other devices and forward them to a server that will connect the data to the applications. Besides the large coverage area provided by the LoRaWAN, many applications can find obstacles to transmit their data. Thus, the studies of multihop solutions have grown in the last years, focused on improvements to the LoRaWAN network’s performance. First of all, the presented work provides a survey on the research field with a classification of the related work according to new criteria proposed by the author. The classification includes a new devices nomenclature and a description of the multihop topologies. The related works, in general, are focused on providing a solution to a specific problem. The proposed work developed an analytical model for LoRaWAN multihop definition, including the energy consumption, throughput, packet delivery ratio, and delay models. Based on the proposed model, we provide an analytical evaluation of some scenarios and network configurations that uses relay nodes. The results show that the relay usage improves the network performance by decreasing the energy consumption and increasing the packet delivery ratio. The presented work includes the practical development and installation of a relay at the UFABC campus. The realized tests demonstrate the feasibility of the relay usage. The tests demonstrate the feasibility of the relay usage. The tests results show the relay increases the coverage area, and the RSSI data indicate that it is possible to decreases the transmission power of the devices that uses the relay, resulting in energy consumption decreasing. Considering the analytical and practical results presented, we can conclude the usage of a relay brings benefits to the theLoRaWAN network.
