Simulation of 5G NR cellular systems
In this study, we intend to analyze 5G NR cellular systems. The study will employ synthetic data and statistical models for the simulation of the parameters of the propagation channels. As a preliminary result, we present the evaluation of the performance of a 5G NR system operating in millimeter waves (mmWave) around 28GHz in an urban environment with multipath propagation simulated according to the statistical model proposed by Samimi et al. The simulated scenario deploys a massive MIMO model and operates in TDD (time-division duplexing).
Simulations employ linear pre-equalizers and consider cases with inter-cell interference and estimated channel parameters. Simulation results indicate that inter-cell interference is the main limitation factor for the performance of such systems. As next steps, we intend to investigate methods to overcome such performance limitations and to assess the performance of alternative configurations of the 5G NR system.
