Weighted Ordering Heuristics Applied for the Routing Process in Optical Networks
Optical Networks are the most important part of the telecommunications infrastructure on which the Internet works. However, the demand for bandwidth, higher each year, requires strategies for more efficient use of resources. Among the issues addressed in optical networks are the problems of routing and assignment of the resources, which can be a wavelength for WDM networks or a spectral slice for Elastic Optical Networks (EON). This work specifically addresses the problem of routing, both in WDM networks and in EONs, from the use of a strategy proposed here, called generically of Weighted Ordering Heuristics (WOH). The initial results for Fixed Routing, which are already published, show a significant performance gain and better load balancing. WOHs applications are also discussed in environments with Fixed-alternate Routing and Adaptive Routing, which are currently ongoing researches.
