SUMMARY:

Alternative energy sources have motivated several technological advances for mobile communications systems, including wireless sensors and its devices, increasing their spatial independence and de-correlating the allocation of power cables and periodic maintenance of rechargeable batteries. This issue is emphasized when hostile environmental factors and adverse conditions are intrinsic to the location where the devices are used, making conventional means of energy supply and, consequently, the management and optimized control of their operation impossible. Thus, studies to enable or even optimize systems intended for sensoring, mainly involving IoT technologies and their communication characteristics, are linked to energy harvesting processes to maximize the characteristics of alternative sources, being in evidence and in the state of the art, mainly for low power applications. In this context, this work is based on this premise to propose an RF energy harvesting system, considering thermal aspects and their impacts on energy conversion efficiency, as well as, proposing to characterize the communication for IoT and energy harvesting, simultaneously, using non-orthogonal multiple access techniques.

All the measures presented aim to improve the energy obtained in the process, without deteriorating the characteristics of the communication system, focusing on the concept of power over communication. The difficulties of the work are based on the careful analysis of the sub-items of the energy harvesting system, including the RF rectifiers and their thermal behavior, in addition to the optimization of the energy transferred by the RF source in idle moments of communication.
