Optical networks are currently the primary media for high-speed communication, widely used in the service providers' backbones. The growing use of technologies such as 5G and even the emergence of 6G bring the prospect of increased demand for higher bit rates. However, current networks have some limitations inherent to WDM networks' current architecture. This work proposes an approach using route segmentation, optical wavelength converters, and fiber augmentation in selected routes to improve the performance of optical networks. The possibility of converting wavelength both through segmentation and the use of optical converters has resulted in an improvement in indicators such as connection blocking ratio and network usage. However, the main advantage of using these techniques is the possibility of an increase in the total bitrate that the network can provide.
