Electricity generation based on the use of low speed tidal current converters: a case study on the coast of Santos-SP

PÁGINAS: 92
GRANDE ÁREA: Outra
ÁREA: Multidisciplinar
RESUMO:

There is a worldwide concern in the short term to find ways to obtain abundant sources of efficient and safe renewable energy, in the meantime fossil fuels are finite. Thereby, it has sparked interest in new sources, useful the replacement them to meet most of the energy needs in the worldwide. In general, the shortcoming in using these sources is due their dependence on the nature forces, in addition to being available only in appropriate places and in seasonal periods. Among the various existing ones, renewable energies from the sea are considered to be the most promising, where the energy of tidal currents stands out, which is a type of wide and long wave with vertical oscillations. Furthermore, which present short-term periodic variations in sea level, according to each planet region and linked to the gravitational attractions of the Moon and the Sun. In general, the geological formations of the Brazilian coast favors their use, due to the formations of estuaries, bays and archipelagos that are close to large cities. The São Paulo coast is one of the most important regions of the entire Brazilian coast, considering its industrial, economic and tourist importance, in addition to important points such as the Santos harbor and oil platforms, which need an energy source for their operation. Thus, the aim of this work is to propose a case study in the coastal region of Santos (SP), in order to identify favorable points for future tidal current turbine installations. The turbine models to be studied will be: oscillatory hydrofoil, tidal kite and Venturi effect turbines, which are the most suitable for the São Paulo coast. For the installation of the turbines, an evaluation of the region is necessary, in order to avoid possible environmental impacts and harm activities linked to navigation, oil extraction, fishing, recreational activities and the population of the region. Then, this study will be carried out after an analysis of these problems in the region, with the aid of nautical charts, tide tables, bathymetry and geomorphological aspects that will be simulated in the HOMER Pro® software (Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable), in order to identify the ideal points for installing the turbines, according to the direction and speed of the tidal currents, close to 1 m/s-1.
