Evaluation of energetics "gasoline" and "diesel" produced in Brazil using the Eroi indicator
Petroleum and its derivatives play a major role in modern industry and the demand for this energy source is directly
related to economic development, representing 34% of the Brazilian domestic energy supply. Verifying the capacity
of this source to provide energy surplus for society is essential for energy security. The energy return on investment
(EROI) energy efficiency indicator, a relationship between the energy obtained and the energy invested in a
process for an energy source, is widely used for this purpose. The EROI of oil and oil products production has
decreased over time due to reservoir depletion rates, increasingly energy intensive technologies for exploration and
production in deeper reservoirs in several countries. Therefore, this work aims to investigate the EROI of diesel and
gasoline produced in Brazil, taking into account the entire production process, from the stage of extraction of raw
material to the final mixture in refineries and distribution terminals, and then compare the results obtained with those
found in the literature of other oil producing countries.
