Propagation of voltage and current unbalances in microgrids operating in distribution systems operating in islanded mode
Microgrid is a relatively new concept and has attracted the attention of researchers,
businesses and even government sectors. The advantage of owning a network that can
operate with or without the support of a most robust distribution network is to give more
space to use smart grid concepts; encourage the use of renewable energy sources and;
above all, seek more financial independence of the utility operator.
However, under islanding conditions, generators and storage systems should
continue to provide voltage and frequency support to the microgrid to ensure that
minimum power quality requirements are properly met and one of the most critical issue
is the voltage unbalance. This paper aims to propose a methodology to evaluate the propagation of voltage
unbalance in microgrids, in the pre and post-islanding condition, when unbalanced loads
are present in it. For this, an analytical equation will be developed, as well as the validation
in a computational environment, using the Simulink software.
