RESUMO:
Brazil is a large country with several regions with very different economic production and population density. This qualification report deals with energy planning of the electric sector of the state of São Paulo considering electric power generation in the state itself. In the first part we verify if the consumption of electricity causes the increase of the gross domestic product of the State of São Paulo or of Brazil. The analyzes were performed using the software E-views. The results indicate that both in the state of São Paulo and in Brazil, between 1987 and 2010, the consumption of electricity causes the gross domestic product (in the Granger sense) and in the opposite direction indicates neutrality. In this situation, generating energy in the state of São Paulo itself to supply its demand would act as a source of economic growth through investments, services and other externalities.
In the second part, the report evaluates the implications of this result and deals with the expansion of electricity supply in the state of São Paulo through generation in the state itself, since the results of the first part indicated that energy consumption could induce economic growth. This part is still in progress. The software to be used for the analysis will be the LEAP, an energy planning tool based on the construction of different scenarios.
