TITLE:

INCREASING ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN THE PRODUCTION OF FIRST GENERATION SUGAR CANE ETHANOL WITH THE USE OF VINAGE BIOGAS

PAGES: 165
BIG AREA: Engenharias
AREA: Engenharia de Produção
SUMMARY:

In the 2020s, there is a global search for renewable energy sources, in order to sustain a solid energy transition capable of promoting transformations in the energy matrix, mitigating and reducing the consumption of fossil fuels and at the same time promoting the efficient use of waste generated. In this context, Brazil stands out in the sugar-energy sector with the production of ethanol from sugarcane and the use of the residue of this production, sugarcane bagasse, to generate electricity. However, the ethanol production flow generates another large volume residue during the distillation process, vinasse, and one of the most common ways of using this residue is directly related to the fertirrigation process. However, this research supports the thesis of using vinasse for the production of biogas, promoting an increase in the EROI (Energy return on investment) in the production flow of 1G ethanol (First generation) in an autonomous plant, with the objective of determining the energy gain with the inclusion of vinasse biogas in the sugarcane ethanol production flow. This study will be carried out through proposed scenarios using vinasse biogas, generated through anaerobic digestion, replacing traditional fossil fuels, comparing these proposed scenarios with the traditional scenario, called baseline, which represents the production flow of the sugarcane ethanol producing only hydrous ethanol, anhydrous ethanol and electricity from sugarcane bagasse. The initial studies already carried out in this research demonstrate that the use of vinasse biogas, when properly treated and purified, transforming it into biomethane and using it in a scenario that uses this biomethane to replace diesel in agricultural equipment in planting, cultivation and treating the sugarcane crop and transporting chopped sugarcane from the crop to the ethanol production plant, represents an increase in the EROI of the ethanol production flow for the hydrous ethanol distribution stage between 23.31% and 20.54% and for the anhydrous ethanol distribution stage between 17.81% and 21.16%. In this analyzed scenario, the products generated through the sugarcane ethanol production flow are hydrous ethanol; Anhydrous ethanol; Electricity and biomethane.
