Image and Union with the Absolute - Considerations on Master Eckhart's Thought and his Challenges for Humans in the Contemporary World
This research aims to outline a study on the process of union of the human being with the Absolute in the contemporary world in the light of the thought of Meister Eckhart. The overvaluation of the image nowadays has contributed to a replacement of what in fact "is" with what "appears to be", and "seeing" can then become the opposite of "knowing". Thus, the culture of image in contemporary society can delay or even prevent the human being from truly knowing and meeting the Absolute, as such an encounter requires a stripping of the images that are stored in memory, in the cerebral hippocampus, and launch hand of the soul's vision and memories. Eckhart, a German Dominican master, conceived the image of the Absolute reflected in the human soul from the deconstruction of all the other preconceived images in it, and his theory is more current than ever. Therefore, through the study of the Echarthartian work, this research project will seek to show the importance of deconstructing the traditional image of God so that knowledge of the Absolute is reached, in spirit and in truth.
