SUMMARY:

This dissertation investigates the role of musical sophistication, understood as the set of musical skills, experiences, and behaviors developed over the lifespan, across different domains of human behavior. The work is composed of three studies. The first involves the translation and cultural adaptation into Brazilian Portuguese of a measure of musical sophistication. The second examines the influence of musical sophistication on the associations between personality and musical preferences. The third analyzes the relationship between different levels of musical sophistication and executive functioning in cognitively healthy adults.
