Public Policy for Childbirth and Delivery Care in the city of São Paulo: Sapopemba Birthing Center as a facility for the prevention and combat of obstetric violence
The dissertation presents the childbirth and delivery care policy in the city of São Paulo, focusing on the services provided by the Sapopemba Birthing Center, which aims to establish itself as one of the SUS (Unified Health System) references for humanized childbirth in the city. The work is organized based on the analysis of gender theory, exploring how gender is articulated in power relations and becomes a strategy for dominating female bodies, using gender-based violence to consolidate its position. It also discusses obstetric violence as institutional violence present in childbirth and delivery assistance in Brazil. The document includes an overview of the childbirth and delivery care policy in the country, the care model in the city of São Paulo, and an investigation into whether this model favors Birthing Centers as a strategy to combat obstetric violence. Additionally, the dissertation explores fieldwork aimed at understanding the work carried out by the healthcare facility, examining its operational strategies, and identifying elements that contribute to the consolidation of the services provided within the SUS framework.
