The Social Bias of Suicide: a study on the association between unemployment and suicide in Brazil
The association between suicide and unemployment is well-established in international literature, but studies on Brazil are still incipient. This research assesses how suicide rates in Brazil responded to the increase in unemployment in the 2010s. Thus, the main objective of this research is to investigate the influence of unemployment on suicide rates in Brazil, testing the hypothesis that the increase of unemployment in the country resulted in an increase in suicide rates. This study will review literature on public policy, mental health, labor, suicide and unemployment, and a large-N observational quantitative study will also be performed. It is expected to demonstrate the association between unemployment and suicide and explore the causes of this relationship.
