The energy sector, essential for the development of contemporary societies, faces multifaceted challenges, such as the need to reduce environmental impacts, enhance data and energy supply security, adapt to digital transformation, develop technological innovations, and ensure access to energy for the entire population. Digital transformation, despite bringing significant benefits across various sectors, has been adopted more slowly in the energy sector, primarily due to its inherently complex nature and resistance to the absorption of new technologies. In this context, this study focuses on understanding the process of digital transformation in an electric energy distributor in Brazil, emphasizing the integration of digital technologies and implications for its business models. Using a content analysis approach, the research investigates the characteristics of value creation, delivery, and capture in the distributor's business practices, along with the peculiarities of digital technology use in the sector. The case study of a leading distributor in Brazil illustrates how digitization is not just a trend but an imperative for sustainability and long-term competitiveness in the constantly evolving global market. The study results outline the digital transformation of Company Alpha, highlighting the importance of digital technology, value creation, delivery, and capture, with digital technology as the central foundation. Aligning theory and practice, the study underscores the relevance of digital transformation as a strategic tool for economic progress and social development, especially in developing countries. This work provides significant contributions to the academic field, offering a replicable model for similar studies and serving as a practical reference for professionals and policymakers seeking to drive innovation and efficiency in the energy sector.
