PPGINV PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM ENGENHARIA E GESTÃO DA INOVAÇÃO FUNDAÇÃO UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO ABC Phone: Not available http://propg.ufabc.edu.br/ppginv
Presentation
The Graduate Program in Engineering and Innovation Management is based on a set of values and purposes to bridge the lines of research in Technology Management and Innovation and Technology and Engineering Design in favor of an understanding of three fundamental aspects for the occurrence of innovation: technology, engineering, and management. Together, the two lines complement each other and seek to find answers for a society that imposes challenges such as increasing complexity of products and processes, the pressure to manage dilemmas, and significant uncertainties.

OUR CHALLENGES

Building knowledge and practices that allow us to propose the ways that lead to innovation

The Graduate Program in Engineering and Innovation Management has the challenge of educating a new generation that will create solutions that meet the complex demands faced by contemporary society. Therefore, the program address innovation from the viewpoint of technology systems design and organizational context taking into account the reality of late industrialized countries.

Thus, the outline of the program brings together heterogeneous, but complementary fields, considering:

  • respect for human values and the planet as fundamental;
  • creativity, free-thinking, diversity, and multiculturalism as approach;
  • incorporation of emerging technologies that anticipate human needs;
  • revive the Cannibalism Manifesto’s assumption with global knowledge within a local context.

Integrating the complexity of technological systems to the heterogeneity of social systems to make flourish the culture of innovation.

The Graduate Program in Engineering and Innovation Management assumes that it is necessary to build the theoretical, methodological, and applied foundations of the process of technological innovation in late industrialized countries. It is understood, therefore, that the process of innovation does not happen emulating models that were successful in other countries since it is known that technological change is intrinsically linked to the historical, political, institutional and socio-cultural conditions.

The changes observed in contemporary society, which are already very high-tech, will be increasingly influenced by scientific discoveries. Therefore, it is of interest both from the scientific community, industries, and science, technology, and innovation policymakers, to understand how the mechanisms that encourage technical progress at a time when technological change occurs at a rapid and continuous pace. One implication of this scenario is the increasing demand for human resources with profiles to develop technological systems and to manage innovation, from the introduction of new products (radical innovation) and also constant improvement of existing ones (incremental innovation).

OUR INSPIRATION

Innovation is the result of an interdisciplinary and harmoniously integrated teamwork with a common goal.

Innovation is a team activity, which is why we use football as a metaphor for the program concept formulation. A football team is composed of the technical staff and team players. There are those professionals who work off the field, planning and executing activities, and also the team, who plays play against its competitors in order to win the game.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Graduate Program in Engineering and Innovation Management has the challenge of educating a new generation that will create solutions that meet the complex demands faced by contemporary society. Therefore, the program addresses innovation from the viewpoint of technology systems design and organizational contexts. Candidates should be prepared to create new businesses, products, services, or processes and to manage the innovation process either in new or traditional sectors, private, public, or NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations).

In order to integrate different perspectives of innovation, we work with the concept of innovation labs and project-based learning. The idea is to carry out projects with teams that can integrate theoretical and practical interdisciplinary skills. Some example of courses offered in this program:

Strategic Management of Innovation

Foundations of Systems Engineering

Technology Marketing

Theory and Practice of Design

Financing Innovation

Analytical Methods for Designers

Innovation Law

Cognitive Engineering

Management of Technology

Interactive Design

Business Design
