For a long time, sign language was restricted, with deaf people prohibited from communicating through it and forced to attend therapies to develop oral speech, lip reading, among other alternatives that aimed at “normalizing” these individuals. Thus, the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) began to be recognized by the legal system only in 2002, from Law 10,436 and its regulation in 2005, through Decree 5,626, thereby guaranteeing the right of deaf people to be recognized as bilingual and have the necessary accessibility. In this context, it is understood that linguistic studies in this area are still few and investment is necessary in the registration and validation of technical and scientific concepts in Libras, known as term signs. The objective of this research is to analyze the contributions of a virtual platform called Librateca to the Libras-Portuguese translation process, through its testing and from the perspective of hearing and deaf signers who act as Libras interpreters or teachers. The Librateca brings together term signs collected from different Libras glossaries and currently has 8041 term signs collected, 4920 recorded, 1622 made available on YouTube and 566 registered on the virtual platform. The Librateca search process allows you to search by word (by selecting the word from a list organized in alphabetical order or typed in a specific field) or by sign (by indicating Libras' primary parameters). The visualization of the signs is done on video recorded by humans and allows monitoring the configurations of the two hands (base hand and dominant hand when there are two hands), the movement and location of the sign, and some signs may have a concept in Libras/Portuguese and image. The applied research with a qualitative approach was carried out by testing the platform with 10 deaf and hearing participants, including interpreters and Libras teachers. The hypothesis is that the Librateca can contribute to the guarantee of linguistic rights, as well as to the registration and validation of glossaries and their respective collected term signs. The testing evaluated the performance of users without and with the support of Librateca for translating two sentences involving term signs, with the records generated from video recording and a semi-structured interview script. The results demonstrated the functionality of the platform and its contribution to the translation process involving technical or specific vocabulary, as without its support, participants had difficulties in finding correspondents in Libras, mostly resorting to borrowing the Portuguese language, through typing. . In this way, it was observed that Librateca has the potential to reduce the barriers faced by people who seek to understand and correctly use signs in specific contexts, denoting the positive impact that this platform can have in the educational, research and professional scenario. By enabling access to collected and standardized signals in the area of terminology, the platform emerges as a valuable tool to enrich the academic and professional practice of deaf communities, contributing to a better understanding and use of technical and scientific concepts in the context of the language of signals.
