ACCESSIBILITY, INCLUSION AND SOCIAL INNOVATION FOR DISABLE PEOPLE
Action Research during the COVID-19 pandemic

PAGES: 194
BIG AREA: Outra
AREA: Multidisciplinar
SUMMARY:

This work arose from the investigation on the theme of accessibility for people with disabilities (PWD), considering the need to study the history of technologies directed to these demands, which erupted with greater strength and visibility in the second half of the twentieth century. Our study observed that, because of the historical activism of Brazilian social movements, mainly composed of families that create the narrative for an Inclusive Society, there was great social innovation regarding the creation of various assistive technologies for PWD. This occurred to meet the needs of inclusion in the public spaces, especially in the areas of education, work, health, and leisure. For developing new solutions that meet collective needs, social innovation arises, which, although discussed for decades, has taken notoriety in recent years in the most diverse agents of society, especially since the 21st century. This work aims to present the development of social innovation projects through the Action Research carried out at Digital Plural, an innovation platform in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic approved by the UFABC Coronavirus Committee, with PWD as the objects and protagonists. The Friendly Masks Project produced accessible masks for the deaf, with an assistive technology produced by a network of solidarity economy in a private-public partnership between the Academy and the Industry during the pandemic. In addition, the Accessibility and Technologies Project focused on scientific dissemination, through an open, online course, bringing to light the realities experienced by the PWD in the most diverse environments, mainly characterized by the speech space provided to these people or professionals directly linked to them. At the end of 2020, more than 16 thousand accessible masks were produced by the Friendly Masks Project, resulting in communicational (of the deaf) and economic (of the artisans) inclusion. The Accessibility and Technologies Project had, directly, more than 90 people enrolled, 14 meetings held in real-time, reaching about a thousand people. After being published, it increased the mark of 2 thousand views on social networks, in addition to the production and dissemination of invisible realities in the area of education, work, leisure, politics, and the potentializations caused by the racial, gender, social, and economic characteristics of the individual.
