TITLE:

Location of distribution network facilities and inventories optimization in situations of link disruption

PAGES: 96
BIG AREA: Engenharias
AREA: Engenharia de Produção
SUBÁREA: Pesquisa Operacional
SPECIALTY: Processos Estocásticos e Teoria das Filas
SUMMARY:

Context - Due to the high costs and the need to plan operations, the location of facilities must ensure that they are efficient and affordable over the time horizon. Given the possibility of the occurrence of different events that can affect the performance of these facilities, such as, for example, natural disasters and road blocks, incorporating these disruption probabilities in the location optimization models results in better solutions. Objective – Thus, the main objective of this research was to develop a model for the network location and inventory optimization in situation where there is a probability of link disruption. Methodology - The methodology used was divided into two stages. The first involves the construction of a literature review through phases involving: i) Planning, where the research question was defined; ii) Research, with the definition of keywords and databases; iii) Screening, where the works that met the pre-defined quality requirements were selected; and iv) Extraction, where a bibliometric analysis and a broader literature review were carried out. The second step involves the construction of a mathematical optimization model involving location of facilities and inventory with disruption in the connection links between facilities and choice of the desired reliability, being applied as an example in a problem related to humanitarian logistics. Partial and expected results – Initially, through the review, it was possible to observe that the topic is relatively new, with the increase of related publications in the last five years. The main contribution of the study is the use of stochastic methods jointly with operational research methods to develop a model that includes the probability of link disruption and the desired reliability to optimize location and inventory. Conclusion - The inclusion of the possibility of ruptures in the location models brings a perspective that exists in the reality of many logistics operations, but which is still little considered. Work in this direction can help organizations plan and manage more resilient supply chains, given the scarcity of financial and human resources and the need to maintain service levels.
