THE SUSTAINABLE WORLD OF 2030: HOW A MULTI-LEVEL MODEL CAN HELP GUIDE NATIONS TOWARDS THE UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDG) AGENDA

The present study analyzed the statistical correlation between the Sustainable Development Goals and their relative indicators for the 2030 UN Agenda through the implementation of a two-level linear hierarchical model (HLM2). The objective of the model was to address priorities by saying how much and where each country should invest so that they can achieve the goals by the end of the decade. As a result, it was checked whether the indicators listed by the UN are statistically capable of describing the expected result. For that, the Step-Up methodology was used, in which the final model is created based on the results of previous steps and simplified models. After analyzing the results, SDGs 8, 9 and 7 were, respectively, identified as priorities. The HLM2 also pointed out that economic growth variable is the most important among all considered. For didactic purposes, a brief comparative analysis between the results from the HLM2 and from a multiple linear regression model (RLM) was elaborated. Finally, it was concluded that a generic answer does not serve to respond to the complexities between countries, and that it would be more appropriate to direct actions based on a case-by-case basis.
