SUMMARY:

Industry 4.0 is one of the most used terms to portray the advancement of technology in recent years. 

Linked to it are a series of tools that help industries around the world to automate their manufacturing processes.

Throughout the industrial revolutions, processes ceased to be manual and became automated. However, it was in

the 4th Revolution that machines capable of connecting to the network and generating data appeared. This 

evolution becomes important as new levels of development are reached. However, these tools only generate a 

positive result when applied at the right time. This study seeks to identify the ideal moment for the transition 

from Lean Manufacturing to Industry 4.0, identifying which are the right tools for companies and industries to 

move towards industrialization. To analyze the maturity of Lean manufacturing, we developed a survey based on 

the Toyota Production System. The questions were divided into four groups, based on the lean principles 

presented in this article and on the listed tools. This questionnaire was applied to some companies participating 

in the Senai Indústria + Avançada Program. With the results in hand, we will be able to identify the best 

transition scenario.
