SUMMARY:

Industry 4.0 is characterized by its high speed in terms of processes and products transformation and, to make companies more responsive and flexible to those changes, the use of some emerging technologies is essential. Among such tools, the growing importance of data, that acts as raw material and basic resource for the application of Business Intelligence, Big Data and Data Analytics techniques, stands out. However, there are still many barriers and challenges to be faced by organizations so that can be implemented in the various activities and processes of their value chains, as well as better identification and mapping of the main benefits of adopting this strategy. Thus, the present work aims to identify the main barriers and benefits resulting from the implementation of new technologies with a focus on the collection, manipulation, analysis and synthesis of data in organizations planning, purchase and procurement, logistics and distribution processes. To face this challenge, this work initially proposes a conceptual research model in order to contextualize the main concepts and definitions regarding the theme. Then, the model and research hypotheses will be tested using data to be collected through a survey application with a group of supply chain professionals from different companies and industries (different sizes and sectors/region of operation). Finally, a set of techniques for multivariate analysis of data (linear regression and cluster analysis) will be developed where it is expected to group companies based on their characteristics and then identify the challenges, difficulties and potential opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in organizations through the implementation of those analytical tools and technologies in their operations through the supply chain.
