SUMMARY:

The objective of the project is to identify and describe the reasons that lead the government Xi Jinping to invest in the expansion and modernization of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of the People’s Republic of China. From the discussion of classical concepts of geopolitics, the analysis of official defense documents such as Defense White Papers and National Defense Policies of China and the scientific literature selected through bibliographic survey carried out in international databases, we will seek to describe the aspects related to defense policies and aeronaval means of this process of expansion and modernization, highlighting whether it is an offensive or defensive movement. Primary sources such as the portals of the People’s Liberation Army and PLAN, as well as documents produced by research institutions and governments that monitor China, such as the US, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, India and others will also be explored.
