SUMMARY:

The 1990s are emblematic for Brazil's foreign policy, because it marks a moment of renewal of Brazilian credentials in the international system, through accession to important international regimes, such as nuclear non-proliferation and the environment. This period is also marked by the recovery of the appreciation of bilateral relations between Brazil and the United States. Given these considerations, the central objective of this research is to analyze the news published by The New York Times about Brazil's international integration in the 1990s, focusing on issues of the environment and nuclear non-proliferation, considered key themes both in the international post-Cold War system, as well as the dynamics of Brazilian foreign policy in this period. By analyzing one of the main means of communication in the USA and in the world, we sought to identify whether such news conveyed a positive image of the country, in line with the self-image projected by Brazilian public authorities, also seeking to identify whether such news contributed to improving the country's credibility on the international scene, especially with the USA.
