RESUMO:

The present research aims to propose a conceptual contribution to the understanding of the crisis tendencies inscribed in financial capitalism. It is therefore a matter of unfolding the theoretical consequences of the following hypothesis: the process of financialization of economies was responsible for refunctionalizing the political apparatus of national states. Converted into platforms for the valorization of financial capital, States see the content of their political processes emptied, which means, consequently, the loss of the capacity to produce legitimacy. If democratic capitalism consisted of an arrangement within which the political form created conditions for legitimizing the processes of accumulation through the production of engagement in decision-making processes, the emptying of the political content of these same processes implies a short circuit within this social form. The crisis of democracy is, therefore, translated as a crisis of democratic capitalism and as an expression of the contradictions inscribed in the very social order reproduced by financial capitalism. The present research, in this sense, seeks to conceptually explore the notion that the process of financialization acutely expresses the political contradictions of the capitalist form and exposes the immanent limits of a social order founded on the self-valorization of value. In the first chapter, the concept of capitalism as a social order will be presented, in order to avoid the risk of taking the economy in an overly restrictive sense. Understood as a social order, capitalism names an entire form of institutionalized life, based on political and social assumptions. As a contradictory way of life, however, the reproduction of this established social order implies the destruction of its own presuppositions of institutionalization. Checking the specific way in which this phenomenon is expressed in financial capitalism is the objective of chapter 2. Finally, the look will be directed to Brazil, in chapter 3, when the construction of an explanatory hypothesis for the difficulties of institutionalization will be tested. of the democratic regime in the country, in light of its recent history. The idea of political contradiction of financial capitalism, therefore, will be the key to reading the framing of the period. Furthermore, the research also seeks to expand the theoretical scope of the field of International Relations through the conceptual elaboration of the intrinsic relationship between local and global phenomena. The very globalized dynamics of the processes that develop within capitalism under the regency of financial domination presupposes the internationalization of the analytical scope as a necessary condition for any observation. It is argued, therefore, that the field of International Relations constitutes itself as a privileged platform for the analysis of the financial capitalism crisis and its political consequences.
