This research intends to examine the effects caused by the American military intervention and to analyze if it represented an opportunity of rights' gains and Iraqi women's political organizing during the Iraq War (2003-2008). It poses itself with the justification of not abdicating the study of the Middle East to the Northern academia and to make the non-hegemonic voices of International Relations, as well as international relations, heard. Its main goal is to answer thus: despite the ills caused by the foreign interference, did the unfoldings of the war make room for the gain of formal political rights for Iraqi women? Since major conflicts may open way for initiatives of human rights gains, the primary hypothesis answers the question positively. The research is conducted by the specificities of studying American gender policies towards Iraq; the internal political sectarism between secularization and islamization; the connections between foreign occupation and women's urban life's conditions; if the political reforms promoted, kept or disencouraged feminine political organizing. The study is based on International Relations' feminist theories and its methods are bibliographic review, document analyzing and reports made by agencies and non-governmental organizations.
