Socioscientific issues (SSI) are problematics that involves social, political, economic, moral, ethical, cognitive and interdisciplinary dimensions, the proposition of these questions to students enables them to reflect on the role and nature of science and to seek to understand how the advances in science and technology affect society and the environment in which they are inserted. Assuming that the discussion of these issues in an undergraduate course allows students to confront their individual and collective experiences, and encourages student’s commitment to take appropriate, responsible and effective actions on issues related to science and involving the problems of social, economic, environmental and moral-ethical order. In this perspective, this research had as general objective to analyze the socioscientific issues that were elaborated by students on the discipline of Instrumentation for the Teaching of Sciences and Biology at the Universidade Federal do ABC, this discipline provides an overview of Science and Biology Teach for the students, allowing them to reflect on the potential and difficulties in the teaching-learning process and about the particularities implied in this process. And through the foundations proposed by Paulo Freire and Derek Hodson, we seek to analyze the interrelationships between SSI and the initial teacher training, so the students were encouraged to be protagonists in this process. For the methodological construction, a qualitative approach was adopted, the investigated group was composed of six students who were in different stages of graduation and have interests and/or work in different areas of knowledge. We designate two different objects of analysis: (1) the planning sheets used during the elaboration of the questions and (2) the recorded interviews with the students after the conclusion of the subject. The objects were analyzed according to the content analysis proposed by Bardin (2016), for the documentary analysis of the planning sheets, we used the socio-scientific question elaborated by the students as a guiding point. We seek to highlight the potential of these issues with social, historical, cultural, political, economic, controversial and related to the current context. And for the analysis of the interviews, we relate the students' statements with the pre-established objectives in the research. The data in the planning sheets indicate that the SSI developed to have great potential for discussions and generate productive debates. In this way, we understand that working with SSI is a process that requires creativity, autonomy and being aware of the news to foster the debates that are brought by them. And the interviews show that during the process of preparing and applying the SSI, all students encountered different types of obstacles related to pedagogical issues, such as didactic transposition, the duration of the classes and the disarticulation of certain knowledge. We understand that the lack of experience as a teacher contributes to this distance and has become a limiting factor for this group. As a possibility, we believe that the insertion of SSI in the undergraduate subjects should be intensified, as it promotes training focused on current issues and when the student is placed as the protagonist of his training process, he is embraced by more knowledge and the process of self-reflection and critical sense becomes more intense, making him perceive multiple perspectives.
