Trans among us: Analysis of the inclusion of trans people in the school community
This research aims to understand how the inclusion of trans people in a public school in the metropolitan region of São Paulo occurs, with a focus on teacher training. A bibliographic research was carried out presenting the statistical data on violence and school dropout, as well as the survey of trans people rights from the point of view of education. For the in situ study of the inclusion of trans people in public schools, teachers were interviewed, through a focus group, and school management members, in individual interviews. Discourse analysis was performed on the data collected in the focus group. As preliminary data from the in situ study, three major themes were observed: erasure of divergent identities from cis / heteronormatives; pathologization of trans identity and school acceptance of the trans person. The main marks in the teacher’s discourse were: ignorance of the separation of identity and sexual orientation, biological essentialism and genitalization of social relations.
