The Biological Sciences Degree course through the eyes of the egress: trajectory and unfolding of teacher education
The Federal University of ABC (UFABC) has stood out as a university with the face of the 21st century. The graduation, in addition to the interdisciplinary bachelor's degrees, mandatory for new students, has among its specific courses, the Degree in Biological Sciences (LCB). Maximum score in the last ENADE, the University and the course are recognized for their educational excellence. The objective of this study was to trace the course of the graduate of the LCB course at UFABC, to identify his performance and professional placement, motivations and opinions on the contributions of the course to his career in order to reinforce or point out difficulties in the professionals who are trained through the institution. From a qualitative methodology, 48 of the 49 graduates from the Biological Sciences Degree course at UFABC were contacted from the first class formed until the year 2018. The documental analysis raised questions about the initial teacher training courses, especially in the Biological Sciences courses and those with an interdisciplinary proposal like those at UFABC, as well as curriculum, school culture and teaching knowledge. Data were also collected through the response of 39 of these graduates to the online form and subsequent semi-structured interviews with 15 of them, recorded by audio recording. The data from the questionnaires and the transcribed interviews were treated through textual discourse analysis and show that 59% of the graduates work with activity related to education, 15 as teachers in basic education, 4 in non-formal education and another 4 are looking for employment in the area. Of the graduates, about 23% have already worked with Education since their initial training, but have changed areas: three work as Biologists in the area of Bachelor of Biological Sciences (BCB) and another six went to the academic area, four with research in BCB and two in the Education area. Yet another 18% of graduates never got to work in the Education area, all of them went directly to the academic area of BCB.
