Scientific Literacy in Youth and Adult Education: a possibility for continued formation

RESUMO:

This project aims to research on the continued formation of teachers in the context Education of Youth and Adult (EJA), seeking alternatives to their pedagogical practice in Science Teaching with a focus on Scientific Literacy through themes that involved Science, Technology, Society and Environment (STSE).

            To accomplish this, we started a qualitative research through an action research (THIOLLENT, 2011), involving teachers and students of the EJA, from elementary to high school. The research first counted on the elaboration of an extension course on Scientific Literacy for the teachers of the EJA from the public system of ABC. Based on the course, we accompany a teacher from the Public State System of Santo André in his work routine.

            Considering the reality of EJA and the challenges of working with this type of education (absence of a curriculum, course structure, teacher training, heterogeneity and difficulty of students, history of school failure and social exclusion, etc.), we elaborated a Teaching Sequence (SD) for Physics Teaching in order to identify the structural axes of the Scientific Literacy, during the activities with the students, involving STSE subjects, taking advantage of the experiences of the extension course.

            We understood this research as a pilot project in which we had the opportunity to change our practices, involving the students in a holistic learning in the search for the understanding of science in their daily life.

            The conclusion was elaborated through Content Analysis with Bardin (2011) as reference, highlighting if there were positive results in the teaching-learning process of the students from the change of the methodology used by the teacher in their pedagogical doing.
