Evaluation of paradidactic books in the Brazilian publishing market aimed at teaching statistics and the early years of elementary school (6 to 10 years).
This study analyzes the presence of statistical concepts in editorial projects (textbooks) for Brazilian students studying the initial years of Elementary School (6 to 10 years), considering national and international documents. Furthermore, it is observed that the paradidactic books in the Brazilian publishing market and aimed at teaching Statistics for the initial years of Elementary School consist, for the most part, of fictional narratives, presenting cognitive elements that can stimulate the attention of student-readers by approaching statistical content with a more pleasant aspect, especially when seen as a tool that has a playful, imaginary and possibly attractive aspect. Thus, to obtain the data, an instrument based on the content analysis technique according to a proposal by Estefanía Espina de la Cruz and María Luisa Novo was considered, consisting of seventeen categories, organized into four dimensions: 1) Description of the editorial project; 2) Presence of Statistics; 3) Contents covered; 4) Planning and management. The preliminary results obtained show that the presence of statistics in these editorial projects is still scarce and does not offer teachers enough information to promote statistical literacy. It is concluded that it is necessary for editorial projects to rethink the tasks proposed to students in this age group so that, as a whole, they allow them to develop a critical stance in the face of the amount of data and situations of uncertainty in our environment.
