The Ways of Feeling Physics Education: A Feminine Narrative
The importance of emotions in everyday life has been enthusiastically analyzed by neuroscience in recent decades, becoming equally relevant for understanding the teaching-learning process, although it is not yet widely discussed in this context. Various factors can alter the emotional environment in the classroom, and in this study, we will discuss how the absence of women can emotionally impact students in higher education Physics courses.
Gender stereotypes have been formed since the dawn of our societies, and we see the reflection of this also in academia and the history of science. Thus, Physics courses in Brazilian universities still show a deficit in the presence of women in the classroom. With this in mind, we aim to analyze which emotions are most frequent in women during university lectures, as well as how the presence of women in Physics has impacted the experiences and retention of female students in the course.
