SUMMARY:

Sex education in EJA demands a series of actions not only from teachers but it is also necessary to create public policies that meet the needs of a modality with its own very diverse characteristics such as: social conditions, gender identity, age group, whose right to education was violated in childhood or adolescence and who did not have the opportunity to finish their studies at the right age. This paper aims to discuss the challenges that teachers deal with in the daily life of their  practices, to address a subject such as sex education with students of Youth and Adult Education of High School in a state school, in particular, regarding the teaching of STI /AIDS, using a didactic sequence as a strategy. The empirical field involved a public high school of the state network, located in the city of Santo André, São Paulo. The methodological orientation was based on action research. The main results found were: students do not understand the difference between infection and disease when we talk about STI/AIDS, there is resistance on the part of the students when the subject of sexuality is approached by the teacher, students have an adequate concept of prevention of STI/AIDS, however, there are difficulties when it is necessary to negotiate the use of condoms. The results found so far present suggestions and possibilities for the challenges encountered by the teacher/researcher in working on this theme with the EJA modality. We understand that this subject is complex, especially in a modality with so many specificities. However, It is extremely necessary a greater investment for research in the field of sexuality of young people, adults and the elderly, especially in the area of education. It is suggested an initial and continued training on the subject for teachers of this teaching modality.
