SUMMARY:
From the establishment of the National Policy on Museums, in 2003, the museum came to be considered a space of practices and sociocultural processes placed at the service of society and its development. The new and insurgent contemporary demands began to demand significant changes in the conception of museums, especially with regard to their functions, as an institution, by establishing guidelines for the Brazilian museological universe, since museums began to have renewed importance in the cultural life and Brazilian social. Thus, the demands of this same society implied a change in the conception of museums, firstly in relation to their functions, and the need for answers to enhance the confrontation of their questions for a framework of themes, doubts, needs and emerging challenges which, as a whole, conform to contemporary demands. We consider bringing from this framework, for this study, the themes of education in museums, democratization of science and accessibility. This work has the purpose of bringing some answers about the education of museum educators, concerning the democratization of science as a process of social and individual construction. Based on the collected data, the first chapter “The training of museum educators and monitors to serve different audiences” addresses academic and museum training, how they are articulated and reflected in the educator's daily life. The article also discusses whether the concepts of accessibility and democracy are part of the training of educators and monitors at the Museum of Microbiology (MMB), at the Butantan Institute. In addition, it analyzes the training models adopted at different times by the MMB. The second article “The excluded in Brazil: from a colonial and structural heritage of exclusion to the construction of identities and belonging.” Does it bring the educator's perspective on who the museum's audience is? How does he think it's possible to attract new and diverse audiences that usually don't frequent this space. The third article “Accessibility at the Museu de Microbiologia do Instituto Butantan” addresses the concepts of democracy and accessibility, draws a historical parallel on people with disabilities and discusses the accessibility of the Museu de Microbiologia.
