The present work aims to analyze if the chemistry didactic books used by the PNLD, year 2018, have a history of African and/or Afro-Brazilian science. Science teaching, in general, does not present African, Afro-diasporic, indigenous and traditional contributions, and the knowledge produced by these societies, especially in the colonial period, was erased and these actors silenced. We consider that didactic books have great importance and influence in the teaching of chemistry, thus, it is necessary to analyze them in order to find out how contents such as the history of science are inserted in these books. We consider that the presence of a history of black science, through a cultural historiography of science, not only promotes plurality in teaching, but is also in accordance with the implementation of Law 11.645/2008 to promote the teaching of Afro and Afro-Brazilian culture. In the teaching of chemistry, promoting a more critical and plural teaching, in addition to the feeling of representation in black students and teachers. In this qualitative and bibliographic research, the introductory chapters to the concept of chemistry and science in the 1st year chemistry books of the PNLD - 2018 were analyzed. The methodology for analyzing the data collected was discursive textual analysis. After analyzing the material collected, we sought to analyze the inclusion of the history of science in the textbook, verifying the possibility of applying the law 11.645/2008 to promote a plural, critical and emancipatory science education.
