SUMMARY:

This research proposes to investigate the potential of the history of sciences in the trainning of chemistry teachers and, for that purpose, it developed a critical educational action with educators through the course entitled: A silenced history: indigenous knowledge and critical educational action in the formation of chemistry teachers . This action dialogued with some indigenous knowledge about medicinal plants through the history source wrote for Jean de Léry (1536-1613), Viagem à Terra do Brasil, especially in the chapter “Of the trees, herbs, roots and delicious fruits that the land of Brazil produces”, in addition to activities with indigenous descendants and based on the concept of ecology of knowledge, by Boaventura de Sousa Santos. The action consisted of four units, unit three of the course being the one developed and analyzed in this study, whose activities addressed, in addition to chemical concepts, reflections on the pluralism of knowledge. It is intended to show that the action allowed the educators participating in the course to experience a moment of formation about historical, cultural, scientific and social knowledge, valuing indigenous cultures and emphasizing the importance of these peoples in the historical process of the constitution of Brazil . This research is characterized in a qualitative way, using the case study method and for data analysis, the Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA) was used.
