SUMMARY:

The effort to implement outreach activities in curricula is at the forefront of the concept of improving the curriculum structures of Brazilian higher education institutions. The current National Plan of Education - NPE establishes, among its strategies, the completion of at least ten percent of the total curricular credits required in undergraduate courses, in outreach projects and programs, primarily in areas of social relevance, attributing greater protagonism to outreach in university education, and encouraging higher education institutions to rethink their conceptions, their outreach practices, the curricular matrices of the courses and the institution itself. The present study, aligned with relevant to university outreach, stands alongside those who support the idea that outreach is essential in the process of university education, as it provides concrete contact with social reality, allowing students to be protagonists of their own education, developing the necessary knowledge for exercising their profession and citizenship. The aim is to present a synthesis of the implementation of outreach activities in the curricula of universities, through the interaction of the outreach practice with the academic formation. For that, it was sought to verify the situation of the implementation of outreach activities in the curricula of undergraduate courses of Brazilian federal universities. To obtain answers. The information was collected through document analysis and those documents were scrutinized using content analysis. Due to the importance of the theme, the analysis showed the advances obtained by the federal universities in relation to the insertion of outreach activities in the curricula of the courses, in compliance with the guidelines of the PNE. It was noted that the challenges are constant due to the necessity of change in the institutional culture, in face of the readjustment of the pedagogical projects of the courses, aiming at overcoming the resistances with the goal of promoting the effectiveness of the implementation of outreach activities in the curricula with the possibility of strategic impact, such as the integral formation of students, and the freedom for the student to build their own educational path through the outreach curricular components. In this context, the implementation of outreach activities in the curricula constitutes a fundamental axis for this broad preparation, through an educational, cultural and scientific process that articulates the tripod: outreach, teaching, and research, in an inseparable way, enabling the approximation and relationship between university and society, so that students can effectively be integrated into society, having a more immediate dialogue with social reality.
