THE REFLECTION ON PRACTICE IN THE LIGHT OF A PROPOSAL BASED ON THE REVISED BLOOM TAXONOMY: CONTEXTUALIZED ENGLISH PEDAGOGICAL EXPERIENCES

RESUMO:

Based upon the double experience of one of the authors as a Science teacher both in the British as well as Brazilian educational systems, we offer a detailed description of some pedagogical principles of the Science lesson in England. We seek to establish some of its theoretical basis, besides identifying parallelisms with the Brazilian context, in light of the reflective practice. Then, we discuss the theoretical framework of the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy (2001) with some critiques to it and to its application in the classroom, aiming to design a pedagogical framework in the context of Brazilian teachers. The framework was presented in an online course, in two Editions, with the goal of answer our research question: “What reflection on their practice do secondary school Brazilian teachers, who were participants in an online course, do when presented to a pedagogical framework designed from Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy for planning, teaching and assessment of their pupils?” Data was produced within the methodology of collaborative, critical action-research, through an online course in partnership with the Instituto Educacional Futuro da Ciência (IEFC), weekly though the platform Zoom. In the course, activities were recorded through video chat. At the end of the meetings, teachers were encouraged to prepare a lesson or sequence, using the concepts learnt in the course, and produce a written coursework, one page-long, describing their experience of applying the framework. The conclusion will answer our research question, concerning the teachers’ reflections on their practice as they tried the pedagogical framework structured in light of Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy.
