An articulation between the formal school curriculum and the exhibition of the Museum of Tomorrow from the perspective of biodiversity

GRANDE ÁREA: Ciências Humanas
ÁREA: Educação
RESUMO:

There is growing acknowledgment of the educational potential of non-formal education spaces that dialogue with the school and transform educational practices through their dynamic and differentiated character for the production of information and knowledge. Scientific and technological development has given rise to the need to contemplate scientific culture beyond the school context, in order to expand scientific literacy and guarantee the population's access to these spaces such as by parks, museums, zoos, botanical gardens, among other institutions. The research, developed from a qualitative methodology, consisted of the analysis of an official document, the Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC) and the observation of the Museu do Amanhã’s narrative from the biodiversity perspective, a central concept in Natural Science and Biology areas and a subject that has always been an object of study and dissemination in museums. The BNCC is structured as a normative document that guides the curricula and pedagogical proposals of the educational systems and networks of the Federative Units for all stages and modalities of Education. The analysis of this document focused on its relationship with non-formal education as spaces with high pedagogical potential for science teaching, especially the role of science museums as promoters of culture and scientific dissemination. Based on these findings and recognizing that museums have their own curriculum and are configured as institutions that articulate with the school, the purpose of observation at the Museu do Amanhã was to establish relations with the formal curriculum, the BNCC, on the biodiversity theme presented in the narrative path of the permanent exhibition called “Terra” in the Cube da Vida, in which an amazing variety of organism and their interactions that form ecosystems are presented, especially that of Guanabara Bay, where the museum is located. The themes of non-formal education and scientific dissemination are absent in Early Childhood Education, being prescribed only for Elementary and High School, especially in the subjects of Portuguese Language and Science. Regarding biodiversity, despite its absence in Early Childhood Education, the theme is evident in other segments of Basic Education, especially in the disciplines of Science, Biology and Geography. It can be seen that the exhibition portrays different approaches to biodiversity, such as: levels of organization of diversity; biogeographic; evolutionary; conservationist; and the human approach. It is possible to say that the Museum of Tomorrow, in the context of the exhibition module Cubo da Vida, contributes to the scientific literacy process of its visitors and its exhibition can be a tool in the teaching and learning process about biodiversity.
