Museographic transposition at the Museum of Tomorrow exhibition and views of Nature of Science
The educational roles assigned to Museums and Science Centers are widely discussed. In this context, within the research field of Scientific Education, we seek to investigate and improve the Scientific Literacy process in these spaces. One of the relevant aspects for Scientific Literacy is what is understood as the Nature of Science, a set of knowledge about Science that goes beyond technical concepts and relates its historical, sociological, and philosophical characteristics: its functioning, cultural, political, and social influences, methodologies, among other attributes. The objective of this work is to investigate the process of Museographic Transposition of the exposed knowledge and its production in the Museum of Tomorrow exhibition, making a cut to the knowledge related to the theme of Nature of Science, characterizing and problematizing this exposed knowledge concerning the references that we use on the topic. It is a qualitative research, which fits in the modality of a descriptive case study. As data, in addition to the exhibition, the book “Museu do Amanhã” and the institution's Museological Plan helped in the investigation, as well as an interview with one of those responsible for the exposed content. About the presented History of Science, several characteristics of pseudo-history, such as Whiggism, were identified in moments of exposed knowledge. In addition, the exposed knowledge presents different views on the Nature of Science, some of which differ from the references used in this work on the subject. In the Museological Plan and the consulted book, the concept and some views on the Nature of Science are present, which indicates that these characteristics identified in the exposed knowledge are attributed to a process of transposition characteristic of the institution itself, and that involved choices, clippings, and adaptations of the knowledge for inclusion in the exhibition following the main museological and educational objectives.
