History of sciences in health education: an analysis of Science textbooks approved in PNLD/2017
The history of science, as content of basic education, can contribute to the process of scientific literacy, giving meaning to the process of building science. Knowing that textbooks continue to be one of the main sources of information available to teachers and students in basic education, it is necessary to assess whether such resources can contribute to the understanding of science from a historical perspective. There are few studies evaluating health contents in textbooks, especially regarding their historiographic aspect. This project aims at analyzing how the history of science, with regard to content associated with health (medicine, public health and life sciences) is addressed in the textbooks approved by the Programa Nacional do Livro Didático (Brazilian National Textbook Program). The analyzed textbooks will be those currently in use in Brazilian public schools, for the Science discipline, in the final years of elementary school. It is hoped that the project, in addition to obtaining information on the historical approach associated with the contents of the books, can point out solutions on how to include the theme of the history of science in these school manuals.
