RESUMO:

For some decades, society has been increasingly faced with several challenges involving Science and Technology, which have intensified over time and according to the historical, political, and social context. In this context, different aspects, approaches and practices in Science Education seek to bring together and broaden the vision of science for students and citizens in general, among these approaches we have the concept of Nature of Science, as well as the practice of Scientific Communication and the Science Museums. The so-called Nature of Science has been widely discussed in educational curriculum in different locations around the world, and among its characteristics, it brings elements of History, Philosophy and Sociology of Science in order to contribute to an amplified view on science and on the dynamics of the construction of scientific knowledge. On the other hand, Museums and Science Centers are consensually considered as important spaces for Scientific Education and Communication, promoting Scientific Literacy and acting as an interface in the relations between Science, Technology & Society, in addition to historically being environments of scientific knowledge production and places where the history of science is present, through its exhibitions and educational activities and also by the preservation of historical scientific and technological artifacts. That said, the Science Museums, Scientific Communication, and the Nature of Science play an important role in the dissemination and understanding of scientific practice as a whole. Using a qualitative approach, this research aims to analyze part of the main exhibition of the Museum of Tomorrow, a Science Museum located in the city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ). In particular, the section of the exhibition called “Cosmos”, aiming to identify which and how the characteristics of Nature of Science are present in the expository discourse of this space. As a complement, part of the book “Museum of Tomorrow” was also analyzed, made available by the institution and which contains information about its permanent exhibition. For the analysis, we used as the main theoretical framework the “Family Resemblance Approach”, a conceptual model on the Nature of Science proposed initially by Irzik and Nola (2011), and which was later extended by Dagher and Erduran (2014). This model, in its extended version, explores the different characteristics of the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge in two broad categories: cognitive-epistemic and socio-institutional. Finally, we present our considerations on what was identified and articulated with the theoretical framework.
