RESUMO:

In a world where transformations in all fields of science happen all the time and in an increasingly accelerated way, understanding, interpreting, and establishing critical thinking is essential to broaden the horizons of the human being. With similar concerns, the objective of this research is to seek to understand how a didactic sequence on Astrobiology, guided by a Citizen Science perspective, can contribute to the development of Scientific Literacy in students of the sixth year of Elementary School. Astrobiology is a relatively new and very promising area, intending to seek an answer to some of the most complex and intriguing scientific questions: Are we alone in the universe? How did life originate on our planet? Another relatively recent area is also Citizen Science, which is an approach that involves scientists and volunteers who are not necessarily specialists, who collaborate directly with each other, working together towards a particular research project in which everyone involved in the process benefits. In this context, the present research had as its central axis the implementation of a Citizen Science project in the classroom, as a way to contribute to the Scientific Literacy of students of the final years of Elementary School. Within this focus, a group of students from a private school in the ABC region of São Paulo was studied, taking part in extra-curricular science classes in the aftermath of their regular classes. The activities developed in these classes, in this science club, permeate investigative practices, which provide the student with a more approximate experience of how science actually happens. The data were constituted through notes in the teacher field diary and the transcription of the didactic sequence, which was recorded. As a result of the research, we pointed out three relevant points. The first is that, because these students are part of a school proposal, in which they enroll freely, through their parents, it already demonstrates that there was a previous approach with the theme, in the case of science. This becomes clear in the students' statements, especially in the third class of the sequence. As a second point, we highlight the potential of the didactic sequence in bringing students closer to the possibility of being able to contribute to a NASA scientific project, through a Citizen Science project. As a third point, we highlight the relevance of the teacher's mediating ability to lead the process of approaching students. However, we would like to highlight that the possibility of scientific literacy would be more pronounced, if this sequence were implemented in a normal context of a classroom, mainly in a socio-economic context distinct from the science club, that is, in a usual classroom context of the class. We believe that didactic proposals, such as the one presented, have great potential to bring students closer to scientific knowledge.
