ENGINEER'S COMPETENCES IN THE CONTEXT OF 4.0 INDUSTRY AND SUSTAINABILITY PARADIGMS
Industry 4.0 brought innovative technologies to industries that changed the way engineering professionals work in their fields. In a society where changes occur quickly and constantly, such technologies support work in the production process and bring new insights, which change the way professionals were used to function. In addition, environmental, social and economic sustainability concepts also influence society and demand that companies have a responsible attitude towards this tripod. Such phenomena require specific engineering skills from engineering professionals inserted in this context that can assist in the execution of an excellent work. The idea of the Engineer who gathers the competences to act while meeting the two paradigms, Industry 4.0 and Sustainability, has become even more critical to overcome the crisis caused by COVID-19. In this context, this work aims to identify the most relevant competencies for engineering professionals who are influenced in their work directly or indirectly by the technologies of industry 4.0 and by Sustainability. The methodological approach is based on the quantitative descriptive method using a Survey with engineering students and university graduates who work in industries from different sectors. This work contributes to the literature in identifying the most relevant skills required of engineering professionals in the context of Brazilian industry.
