Graduate Program in Production Engineering

The Graduate Program in Production Engineering (PPGEPR) aims to train human resources that enable and qualify its graduates to perceive and interact with contemporary scientific and technological research demands, targeting professionals qualified to advance their careers as researchers in a future doctoral program.

 

The contents taught aim to foster competencies and skills that prepare future researchers to work across the most diverse segments of Production Engineering, contributing to the development of the Nation, whether through the dissemination of technological and scientific knowledge acquired throughout the program, with a focus on scientific research, or through integration with the local, regional, national, or international community.

 



Professional Profile

The profile of the professional trained by the program targets the creation of new knowledge, technologies, and productive models, the improvement of integrated production systems for goods and services, and the improvement of logistics and operations management, involving people, materials, technology, information, energy, and the environment.

 

The program seeks the development of models, practices, systems, projects, and innovation that contribute to fostering the field of Production Engineering. This will allow the country to benefit from this knowledge, promoting a higher level of scientific research and contributing to the academic and business community (enabling and qualifying its professionals).

 



Program Structure

The program structure allows students to navigate curricular components aligned with the concentration area and the research lines covered by the program. Study and research are developed across the axes of product engineering, manufacturing, production, operations, modeling, and simulation, all in a harmonious way within the educational context.

 

The concentration area of PPGEPR is Production Engineering, as described in Resolution CNE/CES 11/2002 and by the Brazilian Association of Production Engineering (Abepro). It qualifies graduates to create knowledge, technologies, and productive models through the design, implementation, operation, improvement, and maintenance of integrated production systems for goods and services, involving people, materials, technology, information, energy, and the environment.

 



Research Lines

Advanced Manufacturing and Artificial Intelligence

This research line investigates the applications of digital technologies in production and operations systems for goods and services, such as: artificial intelligence, internet of things, autonomous robots, additive manufacturing, big data, cloud computing, augmented reality, cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity systems and systems integration, digital twins, and blockchain. The purpose is to assess the operational performance of these systems from the perspective of technical, financial, environmental, social, and legal feasibility. Understanding the phenomenon of applying these digital technologies requires developing knowledge in topics addressed in this line, such as:


- Data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence applied to production and operations processes
- Eco-efficiency, circular economy, and sustainability using digital technologies in production and operations
- Energy efficiency in industry 5.0
- Digital twins applied to production engineering
- Lean in the context of digital transformation
- Additive manufacturing in industry 5.0

Production and Operations Management

This research line investigates the applications of systems modeling for the optimization of production and operations processes for goods and services. The purpose is to assess the operational performance of these systems from the perspective of technical, financial, environmental, social, and legal feasibility. Understanding the phenomena related to production and operations management requires developing knowledge in topics addressed in this line, such as:


- Biofabrication and nanofabrication: new processes
- Eco-efficiency, circular economy, and sustainability
- Statistics and multivariate data analysis, including structural equation modeling
- Digital transformation management
- Technological innovation of products, production processes, and logistics networks
- Modeling and simulation of production systems
- Transportation operations
- Product design
