Coordination, committees and plenary

The Program Committee (CoPG-EBM) is made up of the coordinator, the vice-coordinator, representatives of the permanent faculty and student representatives, with their alternates (Internal Rules, art. 2). The result of the election for the term from 01/04/2026 to 31/03/2028 (student representatives: 01/04/2026 to 31/03/2027) was approved by the Graduate Studies Commission and published in Boletim de Serviço nº 1538 of 24/04/2026. Faculty accreditation and reaccreditation

The accreditation and reaccreditation of PPGEBM faculty are governed by Portaria PROPG nº 5341/2025 of 08/10/2025 and by the program’s Internal Rules (arts. 23 and 24). The composition of the faculty follows Resolução ConsEPE nº 203/2016 and current CAPES regulations. There are no longer transitional or exceptional reaccreditation rules (Portaria PROPG nº 3349/2023 and its renewal were valid until 2024).

Accreditation is continuous: requests may be sent at any time to ppgebm@ufabc.edu.br. They are assessed by the Accreditation and Reaccreditation Committee (members in the Coordination section).

Accreditation

Under Portaria PROPG nº 5341/2025 (art. 5), a request for accreditation as a permanent faculty member must include the items below, assessed over the last 48 months:

  1. Cover letter, stating the motivation and areas of interest at PPGEBM and explicitly indicating the type of membership (permanent, collaborating or visiting);
  2. Indication of which course(s) from the PPGEBM catalog the applicant can teach, including at least one mandatory course;
  3. Updated Lattes CV;
  4. Research project(s) planned or under way;
  5. Work plan according to the intended area and research line at PPGEBM;
  6. Membership of a research group in the CNPq Directory of Research Groups linked to UFABC and to the program’s area, with PPGEBM faculty and students;
  7. Information on participation in another graduate program (type of membership, area and number of supervised students);
  8. Having a student admitted in a PPGEBM master’s or doctoral selection process within the first year of accreditation — otherwise, the faculty member is automatically de-accredited (art. 5, sole paragraph).

Initial accreditation as a permanent faculty member requires an average of 4 scientific and/or technological outputs in the last 4 years, at least 2 of them in indexed journals meeting the quality standard of the CAPES Engineering IV area (art. 6, § 1).

For collaborating faculty, accreditation is tied to the supervision of a student admitted in the selection process and requires at least one article in an indexed journal meeting the area’s quality standard in the last four years (art. 7). For visiting faculty, two articles in that period are required, among other criteria (art. 8).

Reaccreditation

Accredited faculty undergo reaccreditation every two years, upon request, based on their performance over the last 48 months (art. 10). Criteria for the first reaccreditation:

  1. Permanent and collaborating faculty must belong to a research group (CNPq) linked to UFABC and to the program’s area, with PPGEBM faculty and students;
  2. Permanent faculty must teach at least one course every 2 years (or 4 credits), co-taught courses being accepted; if there are not enough faculty for the mandatory courses, the CoPG-EBM may appoint a faculty member;
  3. Have at least 2 completed or ongoing supervisions/co-supervisions;
  4. Have at least 4 scientific and/or technological outputs in the last 4 years, at least 2 of them in indexed journals meeting the quality standard of the CAPES Engineering IV area; the others may be full papers in relevant conference proceedings, journal articles, patents, books or chapters in PPGEBM’s area.

For the second and subsequent reaccreditations, in addition to items 1 and 2 above, permanent faculty must (art. 11):

  1. Have 3 completed or ongoing supervisions or co-supervisions in the last 48 months;
  2. Have at least 4 scientific and technological outputs in the last 4 years co-authored with PPGEBM students and/or alumni, at least 2 of them in indexed journals meeting the area’s quality standard (at least one of them co-authored with a student and/or alumnus).

Faculty members are only reaccredited if they meet all criteria. If reaccreditation is denied, permanent faculty with ongoing supervisions become collaborating faculty until those supervisions end (art. 12). Leaves (sabbatical, maternity, medical etc.) must be reported so that the teaching-load requirements can be applied proportionally (art. 13). Articles definitively accepted (in press) may be counted (art. 15).

Approved accreditations and reaccreditations are published in the UFABC Official Bulletin (Boletim de Serviço).

PPGEBM self-assessment

Since 2026, self-assessment has been conducted by the Self-Assessment Committee appointed by Portaria nº 5727/2026 - PROPG (members in the Coordination section). Below are the history of previous processes and the reports (in Portuguese).

Self-assessment procedures carried out until 2019

Until 2019, PPGEBM’s self-assessment at UFABC was carried out exclusively through:

  • The report of the previous four-year CAPES evaluation;
  • The evaluation report of UFABC’s Institutional Evaluation Committee (CPA-UFABC), carried out annually with faculty, administrative staff and students (CPA reports);
  • Annual faculty and program consolidation reports, data submitted through Coleta and the Qualis classification of bibliographic output, available on CAPES’s SUCUPIRA platform;
  • The assessment of faculty for accreditation and reaccreditation in the program;
  • Twice-yearly meetings with the program plenary, comparing UFABC’s PPG EBM figures with those of other programs in the Engineering IV area, and presenting, discussing and setting future goals based on the documents above;
  • Presentation at plenary meetings of reports on the course evaluations completed by students, with suggestions for improvement, when available.

In 2020, especially because of the coronavirus pandemic and the shift from in-person to remote teaching, institutional evaluations were also carried out with faculty and students to monitor and improve teaching strategies in the terms held as Emergency Continued Studies - ECE (ECE preliminary report) and Supplementary Term - QS (QS preliminary report).

The report produced by CPA-UFABC is based on electronic forms applied annually to graduate faculty and students, developed by CPA’s pedagogical team and analyzed by the committee’s statistics team. The reports prepared by the Monitoring and Evaluation Committees of the Emergency Continued Studies (ECE) and of the Supplementary Terms (QS) were also based on electronic forms (Google Forms) applied to faculty, students and administrative staff; however, these instruments were designed to capture perceptions of remote teaching methods, difficulties faced during the pandemic and possible solutions.

These evaluation instruments certainly helped the actions taken by PPGEBM-UFABC in recent years, especially in 2020, when many adaptations were needed because of the pandemic. However, in line with the report of the Working Group “Self-Assessment and Graduate Programs” (CAPES working group report), which addressed the importance of and guidance for self-assessment in graduate programs, PPGEBM-UFABC needed its own self-assessment system to guide its short- and long-term strategic planning.

2020 e 2021

PPGEBM self-assessment in 2020 and 2021

According to the PPGEBM Self-Assessment Project (project document), the committee developed specific questionnaires for each group of respondents: students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Broadly, the questionnaires were organized into sections such as: aspects involving faculty and students; academic and professional activity (students and alumni only); views on PPGEBM-UFABC; services and infrastructure; aspects of the work environment (staff only). Questions were answered on a five-point Likert opinion scale. The questionnaires were sent online (Google Forms) to the graduate community to be completed anonymously.

The questionnaires had a total of 66 questions: 22 for students, 25 for alumni, 13 for faculty and 6 for administrative staff. Broadly, they were organized into sections such as: aspects involving faculty/advisor and student/advisor; faculty and student activities; academic and professional activity (students only); views on the program; services and infrastructure.

The questionnaires had the following numbers of people consulted and responses:

  • Students: 29 questionnaires completed out of 46 people consulted (63%);
  • Alumni: 32 questionnaires completed out of 60 people consulted (53%);
  • Faculty: 17 questionnaires completed out of 22 people consulted (77%);
  • Staff: 4 questionnaires completed out of 6 people consulted (67%).

The vast majority of responses from students, alumni, faculty and staff were positive (that is, on the Likert scale, most answers were ‘agree’ and ‘strongly agree’). Of the 66 questions, only 6 had more than 10% ‘disagree’ and ‘strongly disagree’ answers; they are listed below:

Students:
  • The Graduate Program website (http://www.propg.ufabc.edu.br/ppgebm) provides relevant information for students and faculty. 10.3% disagree;
  • The research lines and courses offered by the Graduate Program are current, integrated and adequately cover the topics of the area of concentration. 10.3% disagree;
  • The Graduate Program has enough faculty members to meet the teaching and research demands of graduate training. 10.3% disagree.
Faculty:
  • The Graduate Program has adequate infrastructure for students, such as classrooms and study rooms, laboratories, library and computing resources. 11.8% disagree;
  • Students are encouraged to take part in scientific events and exchanges in order to disseminate the knowledge produced. 11.8% disagree;
  • The distribution of your workload among undergraduate teaching, graduate teaching, research and administrative activities is well balanced for the proper performance of your tasks in the Graduate Program. 23.5% disagree.

2022

Under Portaria nº 2269/2022 - PROPG, the 2022 committee comprises:

PPGEBM self-assessment in 2022

The 2022 self-assessment followed the same format as the previous year, with online questions for students, faculty, alumni and administrative staff rated on a Likert scale. The following responses were obtained:

  • Students: 19 questionnaires completed out of 41 people consulted (46%);
  • Alumni: 4 questionnaires completed out of 16 people consulted (25%);
  • Faculty: 14 questionnaires completed out of 21 people consulted (66%);
  • Administrative staff: 2 questionnaires completed out of 3 people consulted (66%).

As in the previous self-assessment, we found that the vast majority of responses from students, alumni, faculty and staff were positive (that is, on the Likert scale, most answers were ‘agree’ and ‘strongly agree’). However, the number of questions with more than 10% ‘disagree’ and ‘strongly disagree’ answers rose from 6 (in 2021) to 12 (in 2022).
