RESUMO:

Observing the large amount spent by public institutions of higher education with electricity costs, ANEEL, within the scope of Law no. 9,991 of July 24, 2000, launches Call no. 001/2016 - Priority Project for Energy Efficiency and Strategic R&D: “Energy Efficiency and Mini-Generation in Public Institutions of Higher Education”, aiming to open space for new research and minimize the impacts of the high demand for electricity in these institutions. In this context, this work seeks to analyze, through a case of study developed at the Federal University of ABC, how the application of energy policies can contribute in economic and technological aspects to the institution, exploring the reduction of expenses with electricity, the possibility of knowledge generation and the dissemination of a culture of energy efficiency. Preliminary analyzes of the results from the photovoltaic generation simulations at the Santo André and São Bernardo do Campo campuses point to a reduction in electricity consumption from the distribution network equivalent to 673.18 MWh and 160.69MWh respectively, representing annual savings of R$ 458,632.01 which would no longer be spent on the payment of the electricity bill, since retrofitting part of the institution's lighting system would allow an annual saving of 637.86MWh. Therefore, it is possible to note that the actions developed within the scope of this Call, bring significant financial benefits to the institution, and also provide the enrichment of research in the area of energy efficiency.
