RESUMO:

In the combustion process of MSW in boilers, the high ash content can cause problems due to the high risk of formation of slag, bed agglomeration, fouling and corrosion of the devices involved in the process, which degrades its performance and damages severely equipment that constitute the combustion system. In order to evaluate the thermochemical behavior of MSW ash, it will be necessary to carry out a series of analyzes involving the study of their elemental chemical composition, their behavior when subjected to high temperatures and the possible effects they cause in combustion systems. These analyzes comprise the determination of thermal decomposition, elemental composition, fusion temperatures and the composition of complex minerals of the ashes of each combustible category present in the MSW stream. Thus, the knowledge of the particulates of MSW ash will provide a better understanding of the different impurities, deposition mechanisms (slagging and fouling), commonly found in combustion systems, and may be used in the development of equipment that resists its action or in the identification of the care that must be taken in account, the design and control of the operation of this type of equipment.
