The brightness from the top: art and significance of the embrechados in the Nazaré - BA
The present research was about the sign character of the embrechados in the Nosso Senhor dos Aflitos Cemetery, in the city of Nazaré, in the Recôncavo Baiano. Embrecturation is an artistic technique similar to mosaics, which emerged in Italy during the 16th century. Its application consists of embedding different fragments of pebbles; shells; wood; fossils; tiles; dishes; hydraulic tile; glass and among other materials, filling the surfaces and creating a space between colors, shines and textures. As an art symbol, a reference of sensibilities and social relations, inserted in spaces of preservation and memory, it seeks to interpret the signs, the correlation with the social context and its ability to contribute to the resignification of objects and components of materiality, through concepts applied to Memories, Histories and Semiotics based on Culture and Social Communication. In places where they are used, specifically in the cemetery, the embrechados highlight ideas of elevated space of domination, in a representation of blessing and sacredness, while in Nazaré, because the necropolis presents itself with a front facing the entire territorial area of the city, it also determines a sign of protection, respect and deification
